The import of used cars in Russia decreased for the first time since March 2025

The import of used passenger cars to Russia decreased for the first time since March 2025. In May, 35.1 thousand passenger cars over the age of three were imported into the country, which is 5.2% less than at the end of last spring. Sergey Tselikov, director of the Autostat analytical agency, told about this in his Telegram channel on June 11.

More than half of the imports (55%) came from Japan (19.3 thousand units), and more than a quarter (25.5%) of cars were imported from China (9319 units). South Korea is in third place in terms of supplies (8.5%; 2,989 units). Imports of used cars from South Korea decreased threefold (-67%), while imports from China almost doubled (+92.5%), the analyst estimated.

Among Japanese right-hand drive cars with mileage, the Toyota brand remains the leader in terms of import volume (6,708 units), followed by Honda (5,904 units) and Suzuki (1,826 units). Volkswagen (3,153 units) became the most popular brand among left-hand drive vehicles, while Kia (1,377 units) and Audi (1,319 units) also entered the top three.

The best—selling model among right-hand drive cars in May was the Honda Freed (1,641 units), and among left-hand drive cars - the Volkswagen Tayron (844 units). At the same time, cars with engines over 160 hp accounted for only 3.3% of imports in May, the expert added.

From January to May, the share of dealer ads increased from 13% to 16% in the used car market against the background of a reduction in the presence of private sellers. As noted on June 5, an increase in the stocks of major players has led to an increase in discount offers. In five months, their number increased by 5% to 35%, and the median discount on a used car at a dealer reached 4.5%.
