Pashinyan spoke about the prospect of Armenia's exclusion from the CSTO

Armenia will take note of the decision of the member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) about the possible exclusion of the republic from the union. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced this on June 11.

"I cannot comment on the part of the CSTO. I know that there is a mechanism for exclusion from the CSTO, it works. If the participating countries decide to exclude Armenia, we will have to take this decision into account," he said, the broadcast is available on the YouTube channel Armenpress.

Pashinyan added that Armenia would have nothing more to do in the event of such a decision.

On June 10, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that the foreign ministers of the CSTO member states would consider the possible application of sanctions against Armenia due to its debts to the organization. He drew attention to the fact that Yerevan's debt has not been repaid for more than two years, which is the basis for launching the procedures provided for in the block's charter.

At the same time, Lavrov said that Armenia had already adopted a law on joining the European Union (EU), the issue of membership in the EAEU was pressing, and it needed to be dealt with promptly. In addition, he drew attention to the fact that Armenia is actively increasing cooperation with NATO. The Minister stressed that the country participates in military exercises, purchases military products, and exchanges delegations with both the alliance and the EU. At the same time, Armenia remains a full member of the CSTO, he stressed.
