UNESCO expressed concern about the damage to the panorama Museum in Sevastopol

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is concerned about reports of damage to the Defense of Sevastopol Panorama Museum as a result of a strike by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). This was reported to Izvestia on June 10 by the organization's press service.

"UNESCO is concerned about reports of damage to the historical Panorama Museum in Sevastopol, Crimea," the organization said.

The agency stated that the UN does not have access to the area, so it is not yet possible to confirm the details of the incident. The organization noted the inadmissibility of attacks on cultural and educational facilities, as well as on representatives of the media community. UNESCO recalled that such facilities and categories of citizens are protected by international law.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces attacked the panorama "Defense of Sevastopol 1854-1855" on the same day. The governor of Sevastopol, Mikhail Razvozhaev, said that as a result of the strike, the building was almost completely destroyed. Representatives of the museum community said that some of the original fragments of the painting managed to miraculously survive.

Later, Razvozhaev noted that the panoramic canvas of the Defense of Sevastopol museum had completely burned out, while all the necessary materials had been preserved digitally, so the panorama would be recreated. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called Kiev's strike a barbaric act.
