- Rosnedra indicated the possible presence of titanium and iron reserves on the Moon.
Soil samples taken on the Moon indicate that deposits of metals found naturally in complex ores may be present on the Earth's satellite. This was announced on June 10 by Oleg Kazanov, head of Rosnedra.
"The samples delivered from the Moon show that there may be deposits of titanium, iron, and vanadium," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
The expert clarified that the listed benefits are not of particular interest, since the same are available on our planet. He added that, in general, the geological history of the Moon is much simpler than that of Earth, so one should not expect to find a variety of deposits there.
The results of the study, which were concluded by scientists from the University of Notre Dame and the University of Central Florida, showed that immature lunar regolith may be suitable for building road surfaces on this natural satellite. It was emphasized that such soil can be used for the movement of machinery without significant formation of cosmic dust, potentially harmful to health.
