Every second Russian bought an apology gift without realizing his guilt.
More than half of Russians have bought a gift at least once after an argument, not fully understanding what exactly they were to blame for. This conclusion was reached by analysts of the SOKOLOV jewelry brand during a study, the results of which were reviewed by Izvestia on June 15.
The main causes of conflicts in relationships remain domestic issues — 62% of respondents named them. Russians also often quarrel over financial differences (49%) and the habit of being distracted by the phone while communicating with a partner (45%). Among other common reasons, respondents noted unfulfilled promises, jealousy, and a rude tone in conversation.
The study showed that the majority of Russians prefer not to delay reconciliation. So, 28% said that in their relationship, the first person to contact is the one who considers it necessary in a particular situation, and 22% are sure that the culprit of the conflict should be reconciled. Another 20% said they always take the first step on their own.
The most popular way to establish a relationship remains a frank conversation combined with a small sign of attention. This option was chosen by 25% of the survey participants. Another 19% believe that an honest conversation without gifts is enough for reconciliation, while 15% prefer a joint vacation or a walk.
At the same time, gifts themselves are rarely perceived as a complete solution to the problem. More than half of the respondents (53%) are confident that they only work together with sincere apologies. Another 17% consider such gestures to be an attempt to avoid talking about the conflict.
"Russians most often give flowers (27%), sweets (26%) or jewelry (19%) as apologies. So, the most popular option for reconciliation among jewelry turned out to be a ring — 30% of Russians chose it. Earrings are in second place (24%), and watches are in third place (17%)," the analysts noted.
Konstantin Letts-Orletsov, head of the Ingosstrakh Virtual Clinic project, said on March 6 that dorophobia — the fear of receiving gifts — can be caused by traumatic experiences, increased anxiety, or perfectionism. According to the expert, dorophobia is often based on self-doubt, fear of not meeting expectations, fear of commitment, or a feeling that the reaction to a gift will not be sincere enough.
