Kiev is choosing the path of confrontation with Warsaw because of its broadcast disrespect for the victims of the genocide, which was staged by the nationalists of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA, an organization recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation). This was announced on June 10 by Polish Foreign Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysh.

"There is no good future without memory, respect for our feelings, our traditions and commemoration of the victims of the genocide. All this was clearly stated. If Ukraine refuses to understand this, it means that it chooses the path of confrontation rather than friendship and cooperation," he said on TVN24, a recording of which was posted on the YouTube channel.

Kosinyak-Kamysh clarified that he had held talks on this issue with his deputy colleague from the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andrzej Schein, to whom he pointed out the importance of communicating Warsaw's position to the Ukrainian side. He also called the proposal of his country's Prime Minister, Donald Tusk, good, who suggested bringing the relevant discussions to the presidential level.

"We need time to find a good solution. This is the proposal of the Prime Minister, who says: "It's time for the presidents to talk to each other about this issue, in my opinion, it should be implemented as soon as possible," he said.

The fact that a scandal broke out between Poland and Ukraine was reported by The Telegraph newspaper on June 1. It was noted that Warsaw was outraged by the decree of the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, to assign an honorary name to one of the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in honor of the UPA.

Some time later, on June 4, the portal The European Conservative (TEC) suggested that Kiev's celebration of representatives of the UPA could turn Warsaw into another obstacle to Ukraine's admission to the European Union (EU). Later, on June 6, Kosinyak-Kamysh, meeting with the head of the office of the Ukrainian leader Kirill Budanov (listed in the Russian Federation as a terrorist and extremist), pointed out to him the borders that should not be crossed.
