- Xi Jinping announced that relations between China and North Korea have reached a new historical stage.
Chinese President Xi Jinping said that relations between China and the DPRK have reached a new stage. He wrote about this in a telegram of thanks to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un on June 10.
"I am pleased with the successful conduct of the visit. Sino-Korean relations have already entered a new historical path," the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) quoted the telegram as saying.
The text notes that significant agreements were reached during the meeting between the two leaders, which enriched relations between China and Korea with new content and demonstrated the determination of both sides to strengthen traditional friendship, jointly promote development and prosperity, and ensure peace and stability both in the region and around the world.
Xi Jinping expressed gratitude to Kim Jong-un, as well as the party, government and people of the DPRK for the warm welcome extended to the Chinese delegation. The Chinese President also expressed hope for the possibility of a new meeting with Kim Jong-un and wished for further strengthening of friendly relations between the two countries.
The Xinhua news agency reported on June 8 that Xi Jinping arrived in North Korea on a state visit, the first visit by a Chinese leader to the country in the last eight years. KCNA reported on June 9 that Kim Jong-un declared his readiness to bring North Korea's relations with China to a new level.
