Magyar stated the unacceptability of double standards in Ukraine's admission to the EU

Hungary's new Prime Minister Peter Magyar will not tolerate double standards regarding Ukraine's potential membership in the European Union (EU). The politician stated this in an interview with ATV TV channel on June 9.

"As for Ukraine's accelerated accession to the EU, he stated: he will not tolerate double standards," the TV channel reports.

Magyar added that he sees no need for Ukraine's accelerated accession to the community. At the same time, he noted that he does not oppose the start of negotiations on this issue.

Bundestag deputy from the right-wing opposition Alternative for Germany (AfD) party Steffen Cotre also said on June 6 that Ukraine would not be able to achieve EU standards even in 30-40 years. In his opinion, granting Ukraine the status of an associate member of the EU is a political goal and, if this happens, the EU in its current form faces excessive expansion.

On May 21, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz offered Kiev the status of an associate member of the European Union, which would mark an intermediate stage before full-fledged membership in the community. However, this proposal was not accepted by the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, who considered it "unfair."
