The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that there is no threat of Russia's nuclear weapons to the United States.

Russian tactical nuclear weapons do not threaten the United States, and attempts to put them at the forefront of nuclear arms control negotiations are futile. This was announced on June 9 by the head of the Russian delegation to the Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), Ambassador-at-large of the Russian Foreign Ministry Andrei Belousov.

"As for our tactical nuclear weapons, they do not threaten the United States, they do not undermine the security equation that was formed in the early post—Soviet times and continues to be the basis of strategic stability to the present," TASS quoted him as saying.

Belousov stressed that when the issue of tactical nuclear weapons is raised, Russia's opponents first of all talk about the threat of such weapons. He stressed that attempts to put this issue at the forefront of the dialogue on strategic stability or the control of such weapons are still futile.
