Roscosmos State Corporation strives to involve private companies willing to invest in the space industry. Dmitry Bakanov, the head of the corporation, told about this on June 9 in an interview with Expert magazine.

According to him, the space operator is now acting as a regulator in the industry. In this area, as Bakanov noted, there are both companies that are part of the contour of the state corporation and operating outside it.

"Often, Roscosmos, supporting its companies, fought with those market participants who were behind the fence. Now we have the opposite task — to maximize the involvement of private investors, those companies that invest, risk money in our industry," he said.

Bakanov noted that the number of players in the space sector is growing, they are creating competitive products that are in high demand. The head of Roscosmos stressed that this industry is united and the state corporation is striving to stop fighting companies outside its contour.

At the same time, Bakanov stressed that space projects are a "very expensive" and capital—intensive field.

"Whether it's the construction of the Vostochny cosmodrome, the creation of orbital groups such as navigation GLONASS, or the creation of rockets, all this requires money. The space services market is also growing in the USA, China and India. But everything costs a lot of money and, in addition, is in constant fierce competition," said the head of the state corporation.

Speaking about the projects of Roscosmos itself, Bakanov noted the success of the first launch of the Soyuz-5 launch vehicle. According to him, the second and third samples will be produced and launched next summer.

"It is important to understand that the launch services market has become extremely competitive. Among the strong manufacturers of launch vehicles are Western, for example, American companies, and Eastern, primarily Chinese. The main criterion is the cost of launching 1 kg of payload into low orbit. <...> We must ensure that our service is more competitive and attractive in the market," said the head of Roscosmos.

Earlier, on June 4, Bakanov called the activities of private companies a help for Roscosmos. According to him, private business has already accumulated unique competencies and is ahead of state-owned enterprises in a number of areas.
