Since the beginning of 2026, more than 1,700 elevators have been replaced in Moscow as part of the regional program for the overhaul of apartment buildings. This was announced on Tuesday, June 9, by the Deputy Mayor of the capital for Housing and Communal Services and landscaping, Peter Biryukov.

According to him, over 52.3 thousand elevators have been renovated in residential buildings of the city during the implementation of the program. In 2026, it is planned to install more than 5.5 thousand new lifts, while about 32% of the planned amount of work has already been completed, the Moscow City News Agency reports.

Biryukov recalled that since 2018, elevators in buildings on the account of a regional operator are replaced immediately after the end of the regulatory 25-year service life without extending operation.

As part of the program, specialists dismantle old equipment and install modern domestic elevators. If there are several lifts in the entrance, the work is carried out in stages to minimize inconvenience to residents, writes Moscow 24.

The Deputy Mayor stressed that compliance with the operating time of elevators is under special control, since this equipment belongs to high-risk facilities and requires regular inspections and timely replacement.
