Every second batch of seeds in Transbaikalia violates the law

Since the beginning of 2026, more than 20 cases of sale of seeds not included in the state register have been recorded in Transbaikalia. This was reported by the regional Rosselkhoznadzor administration on Tuesday, June 9.

The department's specialists conducted 36 field raids on outlets where agricultural seeds were sold. The inspections took place without the approval of the entrepreneurs.

The inspectors identified 23 cases of non-compliance with legislation in the field of seed production. In total, 105 batches of vegetable seeds were tested, of which 60 (more than 57%) were sold with violations. Warnings have been sent to store owners.

So, there were 350 varieties of vegetables on the shelves that were not registered in the state register of breeding achievements and allowed for use. In particular, similar cases were recorded in the village of Aginskoye, where seeds were sold in public places without registering varieties.

According to ChitaMedia news agency, the use of unregistered varieties can lead to the spread of diseases among plants, as well as the turnover of seeds with potential GMO content. Therefore, before buying, it is worth checking whether the variety is included in the state register.
