Employees in Russia have the right to refuse to perform their duties in the summer if the office temperature exceeds 28 degrees. This was announced on June 9 by Olga Leonova, Candidate of Law, Associate Professor of the Department of State and Municipal Finance at the Georgy Plekhanov Russian University of Economics.

"The high temperature in the office can be a reason for refusing to work if it exceeds the permissible standards. For office workers with mostly sedentary and sedentary work, the maximum allowable temperature in summer is 28 degrees," Leonova said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

Leonova noted that the high temperature in the workplace can negatively affect the health of employees. In such cases, the employee has the right to suspend his activities, having previously notified the management in writing. The application should indicate the current thermometer readings recorded in the presence of colleagues and indicate the intention to suspend work until the violations are eliminated.

However, the expert stressed that an employee should not leave his workplace until he receives a response from the employer, as unauthorized departure can be regarded as absenteeism.

Ekaterina Stenyakina, a member of the Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans' Affairs, said on June 7 that teenagers from the age of 14 can start working in the summer with the written consent of their parents or guardians, and an employment contract is concluded taking into account light duties that do not harm their health and studies. The parliamentarian explained that the length of the working week for minors has been reduced: teenagers aged 14-16 can work up to 24 hours a week, and if they study at the same time — no more than 12 hours.
