Sechin's report at the SPIEF aroused the interest of the world media
The report of Igor Sechin, Chief Executive Officer of Rosneft, presented at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, received a wide international response. Foreign media and analysts drew attention to assessments of the state of the global economy, the prospects for the energy market and the increasing role of China and India in global energy consumption.
According to the Reuters news agency, one of the most discussed topics of the report was a warning about the formation of the largest financial bubble in history related to investments in the high-tech sector and artificial intelligence. According to Sechin, the world's largest technology companies are spending hundreds of billions of dollars on developing computing power, which has a significant impact on the allocation of global resources.
Valery Andrianov, associate professor at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, noted on Rossiya 24 that large-scale investments in new technologies have not yet led to a comparable increase in economic efficiency.
"We see that now the largest international financial corporations are investing in new technologies, primarily artificial intelligence. However, this does not lead to an increase in labor productivity or to an increase in economic efficiency. Research shows that these investments do not actually lead to a truly positive effect and do not affect the real economy," the expert said.
The assessment of India's prospects attracted special attention from the international media. The Hindustan Times and India Today quoted Sechin's forecast of a rapid increase in energy consumption in the country. According to him, by 2035, the demand for electricity in India will increase by about 80%, and oil consumption will reach 8 million barrels per day, which significantly exceeds the growth rate of global demand.
The head of Rosneft also stressed that Russia cannot be excluded from the global energy supply chain. According to him, the country has the world's largest oil and gas reserves of about 60 billion tons of oil equivalent, which accounts for 14% of the world's reserves.
