The first signal of a brain tumor may be behavioral changes, a new strange headache, short episodes of "disconnection", a sudden smell that does not exist, or hormonal disorders that are long attributed to stress. "But new recurring and increasing symptoms cannot be automatically attributed to overwork, age, or a panic attack. A change in the usual state should alert you: headache with nausea, vomiting or drowsiness, convulsive episodes, impaired speech, vision, coordination or behavior," he clarified in an interview with Lenta.Ru .
The doctor added that forgetfulness, difficulty concentrating, slow thinking, mistakes in habitual actions, problems understanding speech, uncharacteristic aggression, as well as apathy or loss of criticism of one's condition should be alerted.
According to the specialist, in the case of a tumor process, such symptoms may be due to the fact that the focus, edema or increased intracranial pressure disrupt the functioning of certain areas of the brain.
"If the changes are noticeable to loved ones, persist for weeks, worsen or combine with headaches, blackouts, seizures, impaired speech, vision, coordination, or weakness in a limb, a medical assessment is needed," he said.
He added that attention should also be paid to short strange episodes similar to a panic attack.
Bulanov said that some tumors in the brain area are manifested not by neurological, but by hormonal symptoms.
"Irregular or disappeared menstruation, infertility, milk discharge from the mammary glands outside pregnancy and lactation, decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, gynecomastia, unexplained fatigue, exercise intolerance, episodes of low blood pressure and nausea, weight loss, hair loss are alarming," the doctor listed.
He added that with tumors of the pituitary gland, visual disturbances may also appear.
