Malek Dudakov, an American political scientist, said that the United States continues to use diplomatic and military-political levers of pressure on Cuba, which keeps tensions in the region.

"Not so long ago, emissaries of the Trump administration visited Cuba, including the current head of the CIA, John Ratcliffe. They tried in every possible way to persuade the Cuban leadership to sign a deal that was beneficial to America. In fact, they persuaded Cuba to open its economy to American money and American investments. Plus, with an emphasis on the change of power in Cuba. But the parties failed to come to anything," the expert said in an interview with aif.ru on Monday, June 8th.

According to him, despite the difficult situation, including the energy crisis, power outages and fuel shortages, the Cuban authorities continue to resist pressure from the United States.

Dudakov noted that there was neither a split of the elites in Cuba, nor the mass protests that Washington was counting on. In his opinion, the American side expected either a scenario of a palace coup or a color revolution, but none of these options materialized.

In this regard, the expert believes, the administration of Donald Trump will have to choose between negotiations on more realistic terms and further escalation of pressure on the island.

Earlier that day, it became known that international companies were shutting down their operations in Cuba. This is happening against the background of the tightening of US sanctions and the suspension of operations on the cards of the Visa and Mastercard payment systems, NSN clarifies. The decision followed the decree of the American leader Donald Trump, who expanded sanctions against the military conglomerate GAESA, which controls a significant part of the country's economy. Cuba will not be able to receive income from goods and services through international payment systems, as the operator's cooperation with Cuban structures will become illegal. 360.ru .

The day before, on June 7, the newspaper Versión Final reported that Cuba had begun distributing weapons to civilians, urging the population to prepare for a possible US invasion. It is noted that Cuban society takes the American threat seriously, RT clarifies. At the same time, Havana has not yet officially confirmed this information. According to the newspaper, residents of Cuba express their willingness to defend the country if necessary, the website writes. kp.ru .
