Ukraine is not ready to start negotiations with Russia yet. This was stated on June 8 by the High Representative of the European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaya Kallas, at a press conference following an informal meeting of EU defense ministers in Cyprus.

"We believe that the time has not yet come for this. We really need to show strategic patience," she said.

At the same time, Kallas believes that Russia allegedly has not yet demonstrated sufficient readiness for negotiations.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on the same day that Russia was ready for honest negotiations with Ukraine without cheating. In addition, he expressed the hope that the experience of previous failures, when the West refused to implement the agreements it supported, would not be repeated with regard to the understandings reached in Anchorage by the presidents of Russia and the United States.

A day earlier, the Russian leader said that the European Union (EU) should abandon the colonial approach and talk to Russia as an equal partner. He also called on Europe to work with Russia to find solutions to "very difficult issues" that are necessary for both Moscow and the eurozone states.
