- At the beginning of the talks with Bachelet, Lavrov joked about the brochure brought to him.
On June 8, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, at a meeting with former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet, commented on the booklet in Russian handed to him, joking that he had been given "propaganda."
Before the negotiations began, Bachelet, who aspires to be the UN Secretary General, handed Lavrov a small blue booklet. She added that she had brought him a "brochure in Russian."
"Propaganda," the minister joked, taking the document.
On the same day, Lavrov said that Russia was not against a woman heading the UN. He also spoke about the upcoming negotiations with Bachelet.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on June 4 that Moscow hopes that the new UN Secretary General will take into account the mistakes of his predecessor Antonio Guterres. She added that Russia, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, maintains a dialogue with Guterres and will continue it to bring its assessments.
