KAMAZ-master pilots told about the victory at the Taklamakan rally
The mutual assistance of the two crews helped KAMAZ-master finish among the leaders in the Takla Makan heavy truck race. On June 8, representatives of the team told about this in the Izvestia studio.
The race started on May 16 and ended in China on June 1. Two crews of young pilots, Bogdan Karimov and Almaz Akhmedov, took off. In two weeks, the participants traveled 3.5 thousand km. In some areas, the highway ran along a flood-damaged riverbed with huge boulders and gullies of water.
"On the fifth special stage, we literally drove 10 km and got stuck in a deserted area, in water, in a swamp. We didn't even expect this to happen, because there was a big puddle in the corner. Our car completely failed, we couldn't get out of there ourselves, the crew of the Diamond was waiting, he started after us. Almaz pulled us out of there, and we continued moving," said Bogdan Karimov, the pilot of the KAMAZ—master team.
This was the first major international tournament for KAMAZ-master in the last four years. The Takla Makan Rally has been held in China since 2005 and is considered one of the most prestigious and challenging rally raids in Asia. The route passes through the desert areas of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
On June 5, British racing driver Lewis Hamilton from the Ferrari team became the leader of the second free practice of the sixth stage of the Formula 1 World Championship, the Monaco Grand Prix, which takes place on the city circuit in Monte Carlo. Hamilton completed 34 laps, showing the best time of 1 minute 13.026 seconds. His teammate Charles Leclair was second, 0.111 seconds behind.
