In May of this year, 1,159 new Audi cars were registered in Russia, which is 6.3 times higher than in May last year (185 units). Its sales were higher than those of BMW and Mercedes-Benz, Sergey Tselikov, director of the Autostat analytical agency, said on June 8 in his Telegram channel.

Thus, in the last spring month, sales of new BMW cars in Russia decreased by 1.4% (to 1,075 units), while Mercedes-Benz increased by 21% (to 751 units). All three brands are not officially represented on the Russian market, cars are supplied according to alternative import schemes.

As the analyst noted, Audi has surpassed its eternal competitors in the Russian market for the first time in a very long time. The reason lies in the model range and supply chain — Audi cars produced in Chinese car factories account for 86% of the brand's sales in Russia. BMW has a 41% share of Chinese assembly, while Mercedes-Benz has less than 5%.

"In addition, the Audi model range ordered by the Russians is simpler than that of BMW, and cannot be compared with Mercedes Benz," the expert pointed out.

The most popular Audi models among Russians in May were the Q5 and Q5 crossovers, as well as the A5 family. BMW's bestsellers were the X3, X5 and X6, while Mercedes-Benz's best—selling cars were the G-Class, GLE-Class and E-Class.

Earlier that day, it was reported that EVM, in partnership with Yandex, would launch the UMO 8 all-wheel drive hybrid crossover on the Russian market. The car is being assembled at the production facilities of the Moskvich plant in Moscow.
