- A lawsuit has been filed in the United States demanding the cancellation of the UFC tournament at the White House.
The human rights organization Public Integrity Project has appealed to the court with a demand to cancel the UFC tournaments scheduled to be held on the territory of the White House. This was reported by CBS News on Sunday, June 7, with reference to court materials.
"The event is not a "celebration of the 250th anniversary of American independence," the text of the statement of claim says.
Human rights activists insist that the UFC Freedom 250 tournament was organized solely for the financial benefit of the promotion, Paramount and their advertisers. The lawsuit states that holding commercial competitions in national parks violates current U.S. law.
In addition, the authors of the appeal stressed that the construction of a temporary sports arena and a massive arch at the facility had not received Congressional approval. Activists called the upcoming show "deeply corrupt."
The fights are scheduled for June 14 on the lawn in front of the White House. Work on the installation of the stands and octagon is currently being completed at the site.
American leader Donald Trump said on June 4 that the construction of a temporary arena for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) on the territory of the White House could be compared to the creation of the Eiffel Tower.
The UFC announced the participants of the tournament on March 8. Brazilian Alex Pereira and Frenchman Cyril Gan will meet for the heavyweight belt in the main fight of the evening. There will also be a fight for the lightweight belt between Georgia's Ilia Topuria and American Justin Geiji.
