Cuba has begun distributing weapons to civilians, urging the population to prepare for a possible US invasion. This was reported on June 6 by the newspaper Versión Final.

"Against the background of the deployment of American military power near the island, the government of Havana began distributing weapons to citizens, officially urging them to prepare for an imminent foreign invasion," the publication says.

It is noted that preparations for a possible military scenario have already affected daily life in Havana — government agencies and organizations are discussing emergency measures. According to the newspaper, such measures are related to the growing tension around the island and the strengthening of the American military presence in the region.

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla said on May 22 that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio was trying to provoke military aggression against the country. He stated that Cuba has never been a threat to the security of the United States. Rubio noted on May 21 that Washington would prefer to resolve relations with Cuba through diplomatic means, but the likelihood of such a scenario currently remains low.

American President Donald Trump on Thursday, June 4, said that the United States aims to change the state system in Cuba.

The U.S. Treasury Department announced on June 5 that the United States had imposed sanctions on relatives of former Cuban leader Raul Castro, including his son and grandson, as well as two others. Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel said on the same day that the new US sanctions against the Cuban leadership and a number of organizations are aimed at tightening the blockade and further aggravating relations between Washington and Havana.
