- The AFD deputy announced the deindustrialization of Germany due to sanctions against Russia
Anti-Russian sanctions accelerated the process of deindustrialization of Germany and negatively affected the state of its industry. This was announced on June 6 by Bundestag deputy from the right-wing opposition Alternative for Germany (AfD) party Steffen Kotre.
"However, we see the consequences of this policy, and they are very serious. On the one hand, we have a flawed energy transition that raises energy prices. On the other hand, the cessation of supplies from Russia, which have always been relatively inexpensive, also leads to higher energy prices," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
According to the deputy, many German companies would be ready to resume cooperation with Russia, but they are not doing so due to pressure from the United States.
Cotre noted that the result of the current situation is the deindustrialization of Germany. He noted that since 2018, the volume of industrial production in the country has decreased by about 15%, attributing this trend primarily to high energy prices.
At the same time, he clarified that other factors have a negative impact, but sanctions further complicate the situation, leading to losses and significant losses for German business.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with the heads of international news agencies on June 4 that Gazprom had never refused and was ready to supply gas to Germany tomorrow. According to him, the undermining of the Nord Stream gas pipelines is regarded as an act of state terrorism. He noted that the "last line" of the gas pipeline is under American sanctions, so the decision to launch supplies is a matter of German sovereignty.
Der Spiegel magazine reported on May 16 that the opposition Alternative for Germany party intends to restore and launch the Nord Stream gas pipeline if it wins the upcoming elections in the federal state of Mecklenburg—Vorpommern.
