Elections to the National Assembly will begin in Armenia on June 7.
Elections to the National Assembly will open in Armenia on June 7. This is evidenced by the decree of the President of Armenia Vahagn Khachaturian.
"The next elections to the National Assembly are scheduled for June 7, 2026," the statement on the website says.
18 political forces are participating in the elections, including 16 parties and two party blocs. An electoral barrier has been set for entry into parliament: 4% for parties, 8% for blocs of three parties and 10% for associations comprising four or more parties. In total, it is planned to elect at least 101 deputies. The Electoral Code also establishes quotas for representatives of national minorities — Russians, Yezidis, Kurds and Assyrians.
Five political forces are considered the main contenders for parliament: the ruling Civil Contract Party, the Strong Armenia bloc led by entrepreneur Samvel Karapetyan, the Armenia bloc led by former President Robert Kocharyan, the Prosperous Armenia Party led by entrepreneur Gagik Tsarukyan, as well as the Wings of Unity party, whose leader He is the former Ombudsman of Armenia Arman Tatoyan.
Dmitry Solonnikov, director of the Institute of Modern State Development, told Izvestia on June 6 that Pashinyan understands that if he loses the election, criminal proceedings will begin against him in Armenia. According to him, the current government in the country will use all available resources to maintain its positions in the upcoming elections.
Alexey Poltoranin, a correspondent for Izvestia, reported on June 6 that the political situation in Armenia had worsened amid consideration of the withdrawal of the opposition Free Armenia Party from the elections. The corresponding request was sent to the Central Election Commission (CEC) by representatives of the pro-Western political bloc Republika.
On the same day, Poltoranin reported that dozens of journalists and supporters of the opposition bloc had gathered outside the Central Election Commission (CEC) building in Yerevan at night. The members of the commission discussed for more than two hours the admission of the Strong Armenia bloc to the elections or the cancellation of its registration.
