Novak declared Russia's readiness for new relations with the United States
The Russian side is ready for a new relationship with the United States, but the ball is on the American side. This was announced on June 6 by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak.
"Russia has never turned its back on the United States... The ball is on your side," he said in an interview with the American television channel NBC News on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on June 3 that it was necessary to maintain diplomatic contacts between Washington and Moscow, as well as to continue the bilateral dialogue. The Secretary of State stressed that the issue of resolving the Ukrainian crisis and relations between the two countries should be considered separately.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted on June 4 that relations between Russia and the United States are at their lowest point — they have nowhere to go. The next day, Peskov said that Moscow and Washington were continuing their dialogue, but it was wrong to assume that it had already become more complicated.
The head of the American Chamber of Commerce in Russia, Robert Agee, said on June 5 that the prospects for diplomacy between Moscow and Washington are good. At the same time, Agee urged not to get ahead of ourselves, stressing that the further development of events will depend on a combination of many factors. On June 6, Russian Ambassador to the United States Alexander Darchiev emphasized that Washington should receive a signal about Moscow's commitment to partnership following the results of the SPIEF.
