Russian Roman Shogdjieff, who set a world record at the Asian Chess Championship, told Izvestia on June 6 that his next goal is to become the youngest grandmaster.

"I want to become a world champion. And the youngest grandmaster," admitted the chess player.

At the championship, held in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia, 11-year-old Roman took 10th place, scoring six points after nine rounds. Thus, the young chess player became the youngest player in history to complete the first grandmaster's standard.

Roman said that he started playing chess at the age of five, and he does not intend to stop there: the chess player plans to continue participating in competitions and championships. He noted that he plans to travel to Hong Kong for a sporting event in the near future, and then to Kursk.

"In this sport, we can be said to be completely random people...> Like all families who came out of the Soviet Union, we had chess. Roma just saw the chessboard when I was sorting through the cabinet and became interested in these pieces. I showed them to him, and since then he has not parted with them," said Roman's father Savr Shogdjieff.

According to him, there were no great chess players or chess traditions in the family. He is convinced that new victories await his son.

"I know that he can move faster and develop better. There is no limit to perfection," Savr said.

On June 6, the press service of the Russian Chess Federation reported that Shogdjieff took 10th place at the Asian Chess Championship, held in the capital of Mongolia, and became the youngest player in history to complete the first grandmaster's standard. It was noted that in order to be awarded the title of grandmaster, Shogdjieff needs to fulfill two more standards.

Last July, Shogdjieff became the youngest international chess master. The achievement was sent to the Guinness Book of Records and Russia.
