The United States pointed to the failure of the European Union against the background of Putin's statement on sanctions

The statement by Russian President Vladimir Putin on Western sanctions, made at the plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2026), testifies to the failure of restrictive measures by the European Union (EU). This was announced on June 6 by American journalist Rick Sanchez.

"At one point, Putin looked at the camera and said, 'They thought they could hurt us, but they didn't succeed.' He was referring to the EU, and the facts clearly confirm his words," Sanchez wrote on his page on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

According to the journalist, the incessant waves of sanctions have had a negative impact only on European economies. At the same time, Russia has successfully reoriented trade flows to China and the countries of the Global South.

Putin said yesterday that despite the sanctions, the Russian economy is growing and developing. According to the head of state, the poverty rate in Russia has already decreased to 6.7%, although it was planned to reach this figure only by 2030. The President stressed that macroeconomic indicators remain stable despite the ongoing external challenges.

Former President of the Serbian Republic Milorad Dodik, in turn, noted that Western countries will never stop putting pressure on Russia. According to him, sometimes the West, at any opportunity, will be negatively disposed towards Russia and especially towards the Serbian people in the Balkans, who are considered a close ally of Moscow.
