The "Big Dictionary of Accents of the Russian language" has fixed the variant with the stress on the last syllable in the word "turmeric" as the main one, whereas previously the stress on the penultimate syllable was considered normative. This was announced on June 6 by Vladimir Pakhomov, a researcher at the V.V. Vinogradov Institute of the Russian Language of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Chairman of the Philological Council of Total Dictation.

"According to the Big Dictionary of Accents, "kurkumaA" is the main option, and "Turmeric" is only the permissible senior norm," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

According to Pakhomov, until last year, dictionaries gave the only option — "Turmeric", and the form "kurkumaA" was not recorded. It is clarified that the new pronunciation norms undergo a gradual evolution: first they are marked as not recommended, then they are allowed in colloquial speech, after which both options become equal, and only then the new option can come out on top, but in this case "kurkumaA" immediately received the status of the main option.

On May 27, Pakhomov announced that the stress in the word "pamper" in the future will fall only on the first syllable. According to him, in the Orthoepical Dictionary of the Russian language, the options "Pamper" and "Pamper" are still given as equal. However, as the linguist noted, over time, "pampering" will be called the main option, and "pampering" will be called the acceptable senior norm.
