An initiative group of dozens of MEPs has proposed to strip President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky of the European Order of Merit. This was announced on June 5 by the representative of the group, the Polish MEP Anna Brylka.

"On behalf of a group of several dozen members of parliament, I today appealed to [President of the European Parliament] Robert Metsola <...> with a request to revoke the European Order of Merit awarded on May 19, 2026 to Vladimir Zelensky. <...> President Zelensky, responsible for naming the military unit Heroes of the UPA (Ukrainian Insurgent Army, the organization is recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation. — Ed.), does not deserve this award and should be deprived of it," Brylka wrote on the social network X.
