NYP reported on the US assistance to the passage of over 100 ships through the Strait of Hormuz

The US Armed Forces helped coordinate the withdrawal of over 100 commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz in May. This was reported on June 5 by The New York Post (NYP), citing an American official.

"Over the past month, American troops have helped coordinate the passage of more than 100 commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz to and from the Persian Gulf," the publication says.

It is noted that traffic along the waterway is still dangerous amid the stalled negotiations on ending the war with Iran.

The New York Times reported on May 31 that the US military had conducted about 70 commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz over the past three weeks, bypassing the Iranian blockade. Before crossing Hormuz, the crew of most ships turned off transponders for greater secrecy. Sometimes the route of merchant ships was at a distance from the coast of Iran.

On June 1, Mohsen Rezaei, a military adviser to the Supreme leader of Iran, said that Iran would not allow the United States to maintain the naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and further aggravate the situation in Lebanon.

The press service of the Central Command of the US Armed Forces (CENTCOM) said on June 4 that since the beginning of the naval blockade, the US Navy has already detained 127 merchant vessels that are associated with Iran.
