Kim Jong-un watched the tests of the destroyer "Kang Gon" of the DPRK Navy
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un visited the destroyer of the country's Naval Forces "Kang Gon", which is undergoing tests to assess operational readiness. This was reported on June 4 by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
"Kim Jong-un boarded the Kang Gon destroyer and got acquainted with the state of the control center and other various places and points for on-duty crews, the sea trials plan and phased plans for testing the ship's weapons. In the presence of Comrade Kim Jong-un, the ship underwent sea trials to assess various operational capabilities," the publication says.
The leader of the DPRK stated that strong armed forces, ensuring sovereignty on land, sea and in the air, serve as the basis for deterrence and maintaining peace. At the same time, he called the development of the naval forces a priority of the new five-year program, emphasizing their role in the system of strategic deterrence.
He also called for speeding up the testing and commissioning of the Choe Hyun and Kang Gun destroyers, stressing the importance of their early entry into service with the Navy.
KCNA reported on June 4 that Kim Jong-un had inspected a new nuclear materials production plant that had recently been put into operation. The leader of the DPRK noted that the increase in productivity made it possible to move to a new stage in the struggle for nuclear deterrence. Following the meeting at the plant, the sequence of implementation of the plan to strengthen the republic's nuclear armed forces "exponentially" was clarified and guarantees for its implementation were determined.
