Dmitriev announced China's interest in a tunnel under the Bering Strait

China has expressed interest in developing a tunnel between Chukotka and Alaska through the Bering Strait, which is being jointly designed by Russia and the United States. This was announced on June 5 by Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for Investment and Economic cooperation.

"China has also shown some interest in participating in the design and development. So he will study everything together," he said in a conversation with Izvestia correspondent Anton Zolotnitsky.

The head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund also added that the use of new technologies will significantly reduce the cost of the project, and further steps will become clear by the end of the year.

The day before, Dmitriev announced the signing of an agreement on the construction of a tunnel under the Bering Strait. According to him, the project will become one of the major infrastructure joint initiatives of the two countries. The next day, he announced that RDIF had signed an agreement with the company to design a tunnel that would connect Russia and the United States.
