Two residents of South Ossetia were detained for involvement in the illegal supply of firearms and ammunition to the territory of Russia. This was reported on June 5 in the Main Directorate (GU) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the North Caucasus Federal District.
"Two residents of the Republic of South Ossetia were detained red—handed while trying to buy a Czech-made pistol with cartridges, as well as several other weapons," the ministry said in a message on the Maks messenger.
It is noted that the defendants, together with unidentified persons, organized a smuggling channel through the Customs border of the Eurasian Economic Union. As a result of operational actions, seven pistols, including an Austrian-made Glock, one carbine and 18 ammunition were seized from illicit trafficking.
The Interior Ministry clarified that criminal cases had been initiated under articles on the illegal sale of weapons and ammunition, as well as smuggling.
On February 16, Dagestan suppressed the activities of a resident of Kizilyurt involved in the illegal manufacture and storage of firearms. He was sentenced to 5.5 years in prison in a general regime colony and fined 100,000 rubles.
