Putin announced Zelensky's request for a meeting through a businessman.

President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, through a Russian businessman, asked for a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The head of state announced this on June 5 at the plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2026).

The Russian leader said that three weeks ago a Russian businessman called him and informed him that he was invited to Kiev. The head of state replied that he could not forbid him to go, but he could not send him to negotiations in any capacity, since they needed qualified people. Putin added that the Russian businessman had met with Zelensky in Kiev, and Zelensky had asked to meet with him.
