Putin called the unemployment rate in Russia one of the lowest in the world

The unemployment rate recorded in Russia — 2.2% of the economically active population — is one of the lowest in the world. This was announced on June 5 by Russian President Vladimir Putin, speaking at the plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2026).

"Russia has the lowest unemployment rate among all industrialized countries. It makes up approximately 2.2% of the economically active population. This is a very good result compared to other developed countries," he said.

The Russian President clarified that Japan (2.5% of the unemployed), India and the United States (4.2%), as well as the European Union (5.9%) are approaching a similar indicator.

Putin stressed that salaries in the country have grown at a high rate over the past five years — by 30% in real terms, that is, after deducting inflation. The subsequent increase in such payments, as he suggested, should be associated primarily with an increase in labor productivity and an effective organization of production based on modern technological solutions.
