The main prayers dedicated to St. Nicholas the Wonderworker are the troparion "The Rule of Faith and the image of meekness ...", the kontakion "In the World, O holy One, thou didst appear," magnification and canons, the rector of the church of the Apostle and Evangelist Luke in Tver, Anthony Rusakevich, told Izvestia.

These liturgical texts glorify the saint, tell about his spiritual feat and appeal to him for intercession.

"The most famous and frequently recited prayer to the saint is 'O All—merciful Father Nicholas!' in which the faithful ask him for intercession, help in traveling, deliverance from troubles, need and injustice," Fr Anthony noted.

St. Nicholas the Wonderworker lived in the III–IV centuries and was the archbishop of Myra of Lycia in Asia Minor. He became famous for his mercy, caring for the needy, protecting the innocent, and performing numerous miracles. In the Orthodox tradition, he is revered as the patron saint of travelers, sailors, children and all those who need help and intercession.

Special veneration of the saint is associated with several church holidays. The most famous is considered to be St. Nicholas the Winter, which is celebrated on December 19 in memory of the death of the saint. St. Nicholas the Summer is celebrated on May 22, in honor of the transfer of his relics from Myra of Lycia to the Italian city of Bari. In addition, the Russian Orthodox Church celebrates the Nativity of St. Nicholas on August 11, a holiday dedicated to his birth.
