By evening, even the freshest morning look can lose its appeal: puffiness appears, the skin fades, the look becomes tired, and the makeup loses its neatness. The reason is not only a busy work schedule, but also the physiological processes that trigger stress, prolonged sitting at the computer and dry office air. Experts explained why the face looks older after eight hours of work and what habits will help keep it fresh for the rest of the day. All the details are in the Izvestia article.

Causes of fatigue

Olga Ulankina, an expert at the Hemotest Laboratory, said that puffiness and dull complexion occur due to impaired venous outflow and stagnation of blood in the capillaries during long sedentary work. Stress in the workplace provokes the release of cortisol, which destroys collagen and hyaluronic acid, which are responsible for skin elasticity. Also, the dry air in the office accelerates the loss of moisture through the epidermis.

Prolonged eye strain while working at the monitor causes muscle spasm, which leads to the formation of facial wrinkles. The rate at which signs of fatigue appear depends on genetics: people with loose subcutaneous tissue and weak blood vessels are more prone to edema. According to the expert, the individual effectiveness of lymphatic drainage also plays a significant role.

"In addition, cortisol narrows the microvessels of the dermis, impairing the supply of oxygen and nutrients to the skin. Your face may look pale, and dark circles may appear under your eyes," the doctor explains.

According to her, the severity of signs of fatigue varies due to the genetic features of the connective tissue structure. In people with looser subcutaneous tissue and weak vascular walls, edema and stagnation of blood occur faster. The type of lymphatic drainage is also important: its innate effectiveness varies, and the slower the outflow, the more noticeable the possible changes in appearance due to stress factors during the working day.

How does lighting affect the appearance

Stylist, accessory designer, founder of the by SKOROKHODOVA brand Anna Skorokhodova noted that the image deteriorates due to a combination of factors: loose makeup, greasy shine in the T-zone and wrinkles on clothes. A typical mistake is to apply too much foundation, which highlights skin texture and wrinkles under office light. Excessive use of powder makes the face flat, and dark eye makeup makes the look heavier.

Cold overhead lighting in the office visually enhances redness and blueness under the eyes. To compensate for this effect, the expert advises using light textures, creamy blush, and light-colored clothing. For example, milky, cream, sky blue or sage colors highlight the skin, while black and marsh can emphasize signs of fatigue.

"Periodic changes in body position and a light warm-up of the neck and shoulders every hour and a half mechanically stimulate venous outflow and make you feel better. Gymnastics for the eyes every 40 minutes can also become a good habit," Ulankina's doctor advises.

Ways to keep the image fresh

To maintain a fresh appearance, the doctor recommends following a drinking regime, using thermal water and humidifiers. Contrast washes and avoiding salty food at lunch help to improve the condition of blood vessels. It is also important to take breaks, focusing your gaze into the distance to relieve the spasm of the circular eye muscle.

When choosing clothes, it is worth giving preference to mixed fabrics, such as thick cotton or viscose with synthetics, which keep their shape well, Skorokhodova added. In hairstyles, it is better to choose structured options: a low ponytail or a bun. To update the look throughout the day, the stylist advises keeping matting wipes, lip balm and concealer on hand.
