Police in the Japanese city of Fukushima are trying to find an "extremely intelligent" bear that attacked four people and then escaped by opening a window. This was reported on June 5 by The Guardian newspaper, citing local authorities.

Initially, the bear attacked a parking employee. He was driven away by an eyewitness who directed a car at the animal. After that, the bear ran into an office building, where he attacked another man, and then disappeared again.

"After the bear injured two more people, he entered the electronics factory, where workers saw him opening the faucet [with water] with his paws. Local authorities have set up four traps at the entrance to the plant and deployed trained personnel with tranquilizers," the article says.

However, the bear opened the locked window, climbed over the gate and disappeared.

"This bear, as it turned out, turned on the faucet to drink water, and it seems that he was able to open the locked window on his own. I think it was an extremely smart bear," said Mayor Yuki Baba.

Authorities have launched an expanded search operation involving police and drones.
