By 2035, Russian car factories should be able to produce 2.5 million cars per year, while the share of domestic machinery in the country's car market may increase to 80% by this time. This was stated by Albert Karimov, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

"We actually discussed a lot, we evaluated different options with colleagues — now we are defining such a goal for ourselves in the target scenario," TASS quoted Karimov as saying on June 5.

The Deputy Head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation noted that special emphasis will be placed on the unification of the component base. He named increasing investments in R&D and providing a supply that would meet the needs of all Russian automakers, taking into account their commitments to deepen localization, as priorities. For this, approaches to the provision of state support measures will be structured, he said.

According to Rosstat, in the four months of 2026, 249 thousand passenger cars rolled off Russian assembly lines, which is 1.1% higher than in the same period last year. For the whole of 2025, 673 thousand passenger cars rolled off Russian assembly lines, which is 11.8% lower than in 2024.

The day before, it was reported that by the end of May this year, 109.9 thousand new passenger cars were sold in Russia, which is 20.5% more than in the same month last year. Lada Granta family cars became the best-selling in the Russian market, and the Tenet T7 retained the title of the most popular SUV segment model (crossovers and SUVs).
