CNN has learned about the dispatch of Israeli special forces to Azerbaijan for the war with Iran

Israel secretly deployed elite military and intelligence units in Azerbaijan during the war with Iran. CNN reported on this on June 5, citing sources.

According to media reports, Israeli special forces operated from several locations in southern Azerbaijan, at the closest point to the border, 100 km from Tabriz, Iran. The special forces performed the tasks of intelligence gathering and drone control. Several dozen soldiers participated in the operation, including members of the Israeli special operations forces, elite units and the Mossad.

One of the key operations launched from Azerbaijan was the assassination on March 4 of the head of the IRGC's intelligence unit, Rahman Moghaddam, whom Israel called the organizer of the assassination attempt on US President Donald Trump in 2024.

"The allegations about the alleged use of Azerbaijani territory for operations against third countries are unfounded," the Azerbaijani Embassy in the United States said, refuting the channel's information.

CNN also reached out to Israel for comment, but there was no response at the time of publication.

Iranian Ambassador to France Mohamad Aminejad said on March 19 that Mojtaba Khamenei is alive and well and is not hiding in a bunker. The Iranian ambassador noted that Iran's leaders are also "not hiding" 20 days after the start of the war in Iran caused by the strikes of the United States and Israel.
