- The stylist talked about ways to choose gems based on the color type of appearance.
Colorless stones and the correct selection of colored inserts help to create a harmonious image and emphasize individual features of appearance. Ekaterina Fomina, stylist of 585 Zolotoy, told Izvestia about this on June 7.
Basic decorations
There are categories of stones that are perfect for anyone, regardless of skin tone, hair or eyes. These include colorless inserts: diamonds, cubic zirconia, moissanite and transparent crystals. Their versatility is explained by their ability to reflect light and adapt to the wearer's skin tone.
Such jewelry often becomes the basis of a jewelry wardrobe. Fomina notes that diamonds, both natural and laboratory—made, can be easily combined with different metals and styles of clothing. Colorless stones do not overload the image and look natural in any situation.
"Their versatility is due to the fact that they adapt to a person's appearance by reflecting light and, as a result, mirroring the skin's undertone. That is why such jewelry rarely "overload" the image and are suitable for people with any color type — both warm and cold," said Fomina.
Basic color types
Traditionally, a person's appearance is divided into four color types: "spring", "summer", "autumn" and "winter". "Spring" and "autumn" refer to the warm types with a golden skin tone. "Summer" and "winter" are considered cold color types, they are characterized by pinkish, olive or porcelain skin. When choosing a stone, it is important to take into account these natural features to create a harmonious image.
Blue sapphire best emphasizes a cold appearance, while saturated shades are recommended for "winter" and muted for "summer". Emerald is considered more versatile and looks especially advantageous on representatives of the "autumn" color type in combination with yellow gold. Rubies require high contrast, so they are ideal for "winter", while other types should choose lighter or wine-colored shades of red.
Properties of minerals
The final color and brightness of the jewelry is influenced not only by the natural characteristics of a person, but also by the chemical composition of the mineral itself. Chromium is responsible for the shade of ruby, and titanium and iron are responsible for sapphire. Due to the difference in the concentration of these elements in nature, it is almost impossible to find two stones that are absolutely identical in color.
The cut and polishing quality are also of great importance, which determine the ability of the insert to refract light..
"From the point of view of jewelry production, visual perception is also influenced by the cut, transparency and the ability of the stone to refract light in different ways. The same mineral may look lighter, deeper or brighter after processing, depending on the shape of the cut and the quality of polishing," explained Elena Pepelina, head of jewelry production.
