UAZ announced plans to resume supplies to Cuba

Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant (UAZ) plans to resume the supply of car assembly kits to Cuba after a temporary pause caused by the geopolitical situation. This was reported to Izvestia on June 5 by the company's press service.

"Cooperation between the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant and Liberty Island continues, despite a temporary pause due to the geopolitical situation. We look forward to an improvement in the situation in the foreseeable future and, together with the Cuban side, we are working on the issue of resuming the supply of machine kits," the UAZ shared.

Speaking at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) yesterday, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko said that despite external pressure, Russian companies continue to expand their presence in Cuba and are ready to invest in long-term projects.

Chernyshenko noted that by the end of last year, Russia increased imports from Cuba by 20%. The supply of GAZ, UAZ, KamAZ and Lada products to Cuba is developing. The Russian side will also transfer 50 Moskvich vehicles for a taxi company in Havana, he said.

UAZ launched a car assembly plant in Havana in April 2025. It engaged in the large-scale assembly of the Patriot and Pickup models, adapted to local climatic and road conditions. The planned production volume of Russian cars at the first stage was up to 500 units per year, with a full load of 1.5 thousand cars per year. The suspension of UAZ production in Cuba was reported in March of this year.

Earlier, on May 27, the Sollers group posted a video on social media with a story about the updated UAZ Patriot SUV. Together with the restyled "Pro" and "Pickup" models, it should appear on the roads of Russia this fall.
