The IAEA has agreed on a temporary ceasefire in the area of the nuclear power plant

The local ceasefire regime for carrying out repair work has entered into force in the area of the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP). This was announced on June 5 by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on the social network X (formerly. Twitter).

According to the organization, the truce will allow technicians to begin repairing the damaged Dneprovskaya power transmission line. Work will begin in the coming days under the supervision of IAEA experts after the completion of a large-scale mine clearance of the territory.

"The Russian Federation and Ukraine have worked constructively with the IAEA during weeks of sensitive and difficult negotiations, with both sides agreeing to cease fire for the sake of nuclear safety," said agency Director General Rafael Grossi.

The head of the IAEA clarified that the preparations for the repair were complicated by the location of the damaged section: the power transmission towers are located on the line of contact in the area of the Dnieper River. Grossi stressed that this is the sixth temporary ceasefire agreed upon since the end of last year to ensure the nuclear safety of the facility.

"The IAEA will continue to do everything possible to help protect people and the environment from the risk of a nuclear accident that will benefit absolutely no one," the agency's director general added.
