The Cuban president announced the escalation of new US sanctions.

The new US sanctions against the Cuban leadership and a number of organizations are aimed at tightening the blockade and further aggravating relations between Washington and Havana. This was announced on June 5 by Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel.

"The President of the United States [Donald Trump] has made new threatening statements against Cuba; and the Ministry of Finance has added new names of Cuban leaders, organizations and companies to the illegal sanctions list," reads a post on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

According to the president, the US actions are increasing pressure on Cuba and harming the country's population.

At the same time, the Cuban authorities declare their readiness to resist further tightening of Washington's policy.

The U.S. Treasury Department announced on June 5 that the United States had imposed sanctions on relatives of former Cuban leader Raul Castro, including his son and grandson, as well as two other individuals.
