- The AFD deputy condemned the German government's policy of curtailing dialogue with the Russian Federation
Markus Fronmaier, a member of the Bundestag from the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, criticized the current German government's policy of curtailing dialogue with Russia. On June 4, he told Izvestia at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) about recent meetings with representatives of Russian business and the political views of his party.
"The German government is not capable of dialogue with Moscow, it has chosen a side to the conflict," he said.
According to Fronmaier, issues related to the Ukrainian conflict were discussed at the meetings. Upon his return to Germany, he intends to discuss the details of these contacts with the leadership of the AFD party. However, as the deputy emphasized, he sees no point in sharing this information with the government.
Assessing the willingness of the German authorities to engage in dialogue with Moscow, Fronmeier expressed regret over the current position of the Cabinet of Ministers.
The German newspaper Die Zeit said on June 4 that the German government had been discussing possible formats of negotiations with Russia for several weeks with European allies. It is noted that the German government is making such decisions against the background of pressure from other parties, which demand at least to establish contact with Moscow. Poland and Italy are also participating in the negotiations, the newspaper writes.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said on June 4 that the Alternative for Germany party had overtaken other German political forces in popularity because it was ready to fight for the interests of the country. He noted that he did not consider it correct to assess the political forces of Germany. At the same time, he drew attention to the ratings data.
Tino Krupalla, co-chairman of the AFD opposition party, said on May 23 that the current German Chancellor, Friedrich Merz, is pursuing a policy not in the interests of his own citizens, but in favor of Ukraine. He also stated that the party opposes Ukraine's hasty rapprochement with the European Union. The politician called for the development of the German economy and energy infrastructure.
