Relations between Russia and the United States are at their lowest point — they have nowhere to go back to. This was announced on June 4 by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

"There is nowhere to go back, so it's impossible to say that," he said, answering a question from reporters whether statements by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio about the imposition of sanctions against Russia would lead to a deterioration in relations between the two countries.

In addition, Peskov answered a question from Izvestia correspondent Viktor Sineok about the Ukrainian settlement and American sanctions.

"We have never idealized the status of the United States, because American weapons are constantly being supplied to Ukraine, sold to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. <...> With all due respect to the United States, our national interests are the main thing for us," he added.

At the final press conference in Astana, Putin declared Russia's readiness to resume negotiations and assessed the prospects for ending the conflict.

Rubio announced on June 3 that the White House administration is working on a bill providing for the introduction of new sanctions against Russia. According to him, the coordination of formulations is currently underway, while the policy of sanctions pressure remains in place, despite the issuance of licenses for the sale of Russian oil.

On the same day, Rubio said that it was necessary to maintain diplomatic contacts between Washington and Moscow, as well as to continue the bilateral dialogue. The Secretary of State stressed that the issue of resolving the Ukrainian crisis and relations between the two countries should be considered separately.
