- The Russian Foreign Ministry assessed the readiness of the United States for dialogue within the framework of the Business G20
The Russian side notices attempts by the United States to return to discussions within the framework of the G20 business group, but does not see Washington's willingness to reach real agreements. This was announced on June 4 by Alexander Pankin, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, at the session "A New Course for Global Business: Investment, Innovation and Open Markets" at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
The diplomat noted that after almost six months of the US presidency, attempts to build a dialogue in a peremptory manner are visible. According to him, the American side states its own priority topics and listens to opponents, but at the same time shows no interest in building consensus.
"The Americans declare their priorities and focus topics, they listen, but there is not much appetite for agreements or building consensus around these or other topics," TASS quoted him as saying.
Pankin stressed that this approach is evident in such strategic areas of cooperation as trade, finance and energy. The Deputy Foreign Minister expressed doubt that the United States at this stage is really interested in a collective search for answers to global challenges, including economic, digital and social inequality between countries.
In this regard, the Russian diplomat pointed to the high demand for signals from the G20 about the need to restore predictable rules of the game in the global economy. According to Pankin, it is the return of understandable market conditions that is the key factor for long-term planning.
Kirill Dmitriev, Special Representative of the President of Russia for Investment and Economic Cooperation with Foreign Countries and CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), held telephone talks with Steve Witkoff, Special Envoy of the President of the United States, and Jared Kushner, an entrepreneur, on June 3. According to him, the key topic of the conversation was economic cooperation.
