Titov called Azerbaijan an alternative exporter of agricultural products to Armenia

Russia will now import agricultural products, which it previously purchased from Armenia, from Azerbaijan, as this country is able to provide more. This was announced on June 4 by Boris Titov, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for Relations with International Organizations for Sustainable Development, on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2026).

"We will replace what we are losing in Armenia with Azerbaijan, because Azerbaijan can definitely do more and gives more in agriculture than Armenia," he said in an interview with Sputnik Azerbaijan.

Commenting on Armenia's possible accession to the European Union (EU), Titov warned that the people of this state could face negative consequences in the form of price increases and inflation.

"It will concern literally everything. Not only energy, which is now much cheaper for them than in Europe, will have to match European prices. This will concern both food supplies and the cost of food on the domestic market," he concluded.

Putin, Tokayev, Lukashenko and Japarov at the summit decided to assess the damage caused by the suspension of the republic's membership until December.

Rosselkhoznadzor employees stated on May 28 that agricultural products exported by Armenia to Russia did not comply with the norms of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). Based on this, the agency introduced temporary restrictions on the import of fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, green crops and strawberries from May 30. After a while, it became known that starting from June 3, the same measures were extended to sunflower seeds, eggplants, potatoes and dried fruits.

On June 2, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan promised his farmers compensation for crops that they would not be able to supply to the Russian market. He called Moscow's innovations an "unfair obstacle to exports." Two days later, the Secretary of the Russian Security Council, Sergei Shoigu, said that Yerevan was well aware of how difficult it would be for him without the Russian side and the EAEU, from which he was thinking of leaving.
