VTB has revealed plans to invest in the development of artificial intelligence
In the coming years, VTB Group intends to allocate tens of billions of rubles for the development of artificial intelligence technologies in its own business processes. This was announced at SPIEF 2026 by Dmitry Pyanov, First Deputy President and Chairman of the VTB Management Board.
"It is important for us to have a systematic, centralized development of the key technology, artificial intelligence, both in the Bank and in the country's economy as a whole. However, AI by itself does not provide a financial result; the result occurs at the moment of implementation into business processes. We adhere to the concept of "lean AI". In the bank, each project must be "countable" and pay off within a few years, bringing 2-3 rubles of income for each ruble invested. If the model does not confirm direct economic efficiency, it is not implemented," Dmitry Pyanov noted.
He said that out of 130 initial ideas for digital assistants, the bank selected only 17 of the most promising projects for further work.
As the representative of the bank noted, new financial technologies are either initially based on artificial intelligence, including solutions in lending, biometrics and robotics, or they can significantly improve the efficiency of business processes in combination with AI and AI agents. We are talking, in particular, about open APIs and the digital ruble.
"VTB was the first on the market to introduce an AI investment recommendation service as part of a robot advisor service, and last year it introduced an AI-based auto research strategy at VTB My Investments. AI has a fast and measurable effect: reducing risks, increasing returns, personalization, and automation. VTB is already actively implementing voice assistants, department analysis, and predictive analytics. In particular, AI in lending and operations gives us the highest ROI today," Dmitry Pyanov emphasized.
