On the border with China in Transbaikalia, customs officers stopped an attempt to illegally export biological remains. The foreigner planned to smuggle a wolf's skull across the border, as well as the bones of the animal's upper and lower jaw.
According to the ChitaMedia news agency with reference to the Chita customs, customs officers found the remains of the truck driver at the Zabaikalsk checkpoint. The foreign citizen explained that he had bought a "dog's skull" in Irkutsk, but did not know that it needed to be declared.
The examination confirmed that the remains belong to a gray wolf, which belongs to the canid family. An administrative case has been initiated. The foreigner faces a fine with possible confiscation of the skull.
Earlier it was reported that at Omsk airport, customs officers found a dried crocodile head in the luggage of a Russian who arrived from Thailand. "The man said that he had bought a "souvenir" for his personal collection, but did not know about the need to declare and provide permits. Later, the examination confirmed that the head is real.
